Walkthrough 1 – Door Analysis

Initiate Your Project in Microsoft Power BI

First, open up Microsoft Power BI Service and log into your account. Then open up your project. You’ll see the SeveUp BIM viewer Power BI dashboard in the centre of your dashboard. To the side of the BIM viewer there is an interactive data pane. At the top of the BIM viewer, the number Assets, Properties, Class, Object Type and Storeys of the building are displayed.

Explore Building element classes

In the data panel on the left side of the dashboard you’ll find a data pane. There are three choices for the data. Click on “Class” to access all the different classes within your BIM model.

Navigate Through Door Elements

A list of all the classes within your BIM model will appear. Click on “Door” to access all the data on the doors.

Inspect Details on Level 2

There is a donut pie chart on the bottom of the dashboard which gives you access to all the levels or storeys within your building. Hold down the “shift” key on your keyboard and then click on “Level 2”. 

If you simply click on “Level 2” without using the “shift” key then it will show all assets on that entire storey.

Under the BIM viewer Power BI custom visual, there are different buttons for changing what is being shown in the viewer. In brackets on the “Update” button, the amount of “Assets” you’ve selected is shown compared to the amount of “Assets” within the entire report. To show just the selected assets you must click on the “Update” button.

Now all the selected doors are shown in the BIM viewer Power BI custom visual highlighted in green. To access “Tooltip” information on a specified part of the selection, simply click on the “tooltip” icon which is located at the bottom of the BIM viewer.

Precise Object Selection

Navigate to the object you wish to select and hover or click your cursor on it. Information about the object will be displayed as a pop-up.

Reveal All Elements with a Click

To go back to the default view of your project within the BIM viewer, simply click on the “Show all” button at the bottom of the viewer.

Reset Easily with the ‘Brush’ Icon

To reset all of your selections simply click on the “brush” icon at the top of the data pane and it will rest it to the default list again.

Walkthrough 2 – System Analysis

Explore Building Systems in Detail

Go to the Data pane again but this time click on “System” instead of “Class”. A list of all the systems contained in your report will show.

Handpick a System for Analysis

Now select a system to view the information about it. This will show the entire system and it will highlight it in green again.

Keep Data Current with ‘Update’

The “Update” button will again show how many of the assets you’ve selected. Click on it so thagt the BIM Viewer updates to show just the selected assets.

Expand Your View with ‘+’

Each system may have multiple assets within it. If you click on “+” icon on the left of the system name, a drop down list will appear.

Select Specific Elements like ‘Air Terminal’

You can now select another asset from the list. In this case, we will choose “Air Terminal”.

Refresh Display with ‘Update’inside the BIM viewer Power BI custom visual

Click on “Update” again to refresh the BIM viewer to show the selected assets.

Enhance data visualization with SeveUp in Power BI Desktop

The SeveUp 3D BIM Viewer will now show the selected assets and you can easily navigate further into the 3D BIM landscape to see how these assets interact with their surroundings. The bottom of the screen will display detailed information about each asset and the “tooltip” will let you delve deeper into the data.
